外務大臣賞ほか数多く受賞
今年、創部20周年を迎える本校・書道部の快進撃が続いています。
毎日書道宮城県高校生選抜書展での“8年連続団体優勝”に続いて、「書の甲子園」と呼ばれる国際高校生選抜書展においても、本校・書道部員や海外からの留学生が、外務大臣賞、優秀賞、秀作賞などを受賞しました。
■母国の大学でも
書を続けていきたい
外務大臣賞に輝いたのは2年前にタイから留学生として仙台育英に来て、現在外国語コースで学ぶスパニー・ソートムモンコンさん。スパニーさんは1年生の時（留学生としての初年）から書道部に所属。日本語を学ぶかたわら書にも挑戦してきましたが、大会で受賞したのは今回が初めて。「2年半、書を続けてきたかいがありました」と喜びをかくしません。
スパニーさんが出品したのは「夢」の文字をしたためた作品。「私には夢があります。春に外国語コースを卒業したらタイの大学を受験する予定。そして大学卒業後はタイで日本語先生に…これが私の夢。この夢、将来への思いを今回の作品にこめました」。スパニーさんは「タイの大学に進んでも書を続けていきたい」と話します。

Supanee Sothommongkon, from
Thailand, studied in Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School's Foreign Language
course from 2008.
Supanee showed large interest in calligraphy so was invited into Ikuei's calligraphy club.
During her term at Ikuei she excelled in calligraphy and entered the annual international Mainichi Calligraphy Competition using the character ‘Dream’.
She said she chose this character because “ I have a dream to enter university in Thailand and become a Japanese teacher”.
Her entry was hailed at the competition and she was awarded first place, ‘The Foreign Minister Award’.
This was Supanee's first award in calligraphy. Supanee has said that her time in Ikuei has given her valuable and notable experiences that she will treasure for her life.
She has also expressed her desire to continue calligraphy after returning to her home country. .
